Richard Keating of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill designed the tower, and the infobox adds Lloyd Jones Brewer & Associates. The developer is Century Development Management. It was completed in 1982 and opened in 1983. The article names no style or materials.
It rises 992 feet (302.4 m) with 71 floors above street level and four below. It is the second-tallest building in Houston, behind JPMorgan Chase Tower. It was built as Allied Bank Plaza and renamed First Interstate Bank Plaza in 1988. Hurricane Alicia in 1983 blew out many windows.
Ownership passed to Wells Fargo after its 1996 takeover of First Interstate, though a 2006 passage names a MetLife entity as owner. It has direct street access to the Houston tunnel system, and publicly accessible sky lobbies on two levels.
