Wallingford Castle is a ruined motte-and-bailey castle in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, beside the River Thames. Robert D'Oyly probably built the wooden castle between 1067 and 1071. Brien FitzCount rebuilt it in stone, probably in the 1130s, adding a shell keep and a curtain wall around the bailey. The motte measures 60 meters across and 13 meters high.
The castle was held for Empress Matilda during the Anarchy, and it withstood several sieges without being taken. It served royalty for centuries until Henry VIII abandoned it as a residence. Parliamentary forces captured it in 1646 after a siege, and it was slighted in 1652.
The mansion was demolished in 1972. The site is a scheduled monument, and its grounds are open to the public.
