The Vithoba Temple, also known as the Vitthal-Rukmini Mandir, is in Pandharpur in Solapur district, Maharashtra. It is the most visited temple in the state. An inscription records a shrine on the site in 1189, and another records a gateway built in 1237. Dates in the temple's wider history are uncertain, and the standing structure is mainly from the seventeenth century or later, in the later Deccan style, with dome motifs and lobed arches.
The temple has six main areas, including the Sabha Mandapa and a hall of sixteen pillars. A stone step at the entrance honors the saint Namdev. Daily rites begin at 3 AM and end at 10 PM.
Huge pilgrimages take place each year at Aashadhi Ekadashi and Kartiki Ekadashi. In 2014 the priesthood was opened to women and lower-caste people.
