The Thalia Theater in Hamburg, Germany, was founded in 1843 by Charles Maurice Schwartzenberger and named after the muse Thalia. It is one of three state-owned theatres in Hamburg, and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg owns it. Its ensemble is one of the best known in Germany, and it stages about nine new plays per season.
The main building is at Raboisen 67, in the Altstadt quarter near the Binnenalster and Gerhart-Hauptmann-Platz. A smaller stage for experimental plays, Thalia in der Gaußstraße, is in the borough of Altona.
Ulrich Khuon was the theatre manager before Joachim Lux, who succeeded him in 2009 and 2010 and is the current manager. In 1991 Ruth Berghaus directed Bertolt Brecht's In the Jungle of Cities there.
