Strata SE1 is a residential tower at Elephant and Castle in the London Borough of Southwark. The architect was BFLS, formerly Hamiltons, and the developer was Brookfield Europe. Planning permission was granted in March 2006, construction began in 2007 and the tower was completed in June 2010. It cost about 113.5 million pounds.
The tower rises 482 feet (147 meters) and has 43 floors, with more than 1,000 residents. Three wind turbines, each 59 feet (18 meters) across, were mounted at the top, but they are now mothballed, partly because of complaints about noise and vibration. A quarter of the flats were sold as shared ownership.
The site was formerly Castle House, a six-story office building from the early 1960s. The tower won the Carbuncle Cup in 2010 and the Concrete Society Awards the same year.
