Building began in 1225 as a Romanesque basilica with two choirs, and it gained parish status in 1255. The article names no architect or client. From 1309 to 1345 the side aisles were widened and the steeples raised, and a late Gothic hall chancel was built from 1358 to 1379. Two towers were added in the 15th century. In the mid-17th century galleries were added and the interior was remodeled in Baroque style.

Allied bombing on January 2, 1945 destroyed the case of the main organ, which dated from 1440 and 1441 and had been rebuilt in 1691. A new organ by Peter of Cologne was installed in 1975. The article gives no materials or dimensions.

It is a Lutheran parish church at Albrecht-Dürer-Platz, formerly Catholic. The article states no heritage designation.
