St. Peter's Church stands in Old Jaffa, now part of Tel Aviv-Yafo, and is run by the Franciscans. A church dedicated to Saint Peter was first built here in 1654 and was twice destroyed and rebuilt in the late eighteenth century. Napoleon reportedly stayed there in 1799. The present structure was built from 1888 to 1894 in a New Spanish Baroque style, and the page credits the Spanish Empire with erecting it. It stands over a medieval citadel built by Frederick I and restored by Louis IX of France in the late thirteenth century, and remnants include two circular rooms.
The church has a tall brick facade, a towering bell tower, a high vaulted ceiling and marble walls. Franz Xaver Zettler made the stained glass in Munich, and the windows mostly show Spanish saints. The pulpit is carved in the shape of a tree.
The monastery has a courtyard, a statue of Louis IX and a library.
