St. Catherine's Church is the oldest church in Gdańsk and was once the parish church of the Old Town. It was founded in the thirteenth century, and its infobox gives construction as 1227 to 1239. It is a Brick Gothic building 61.5 meters long, with chapels and a high gable roof. It was Protestant from 1545 until 1945, when it returned to the Catholic Church. It became a Historic Monument of Poland on September 8, 1994.
The tower is 76 meters tall, with Baroque spires and a 50-bell carillon that chimes hourly. The church holds the tomb of the astronomer Hevelius. Since 2011 it has housed the world's first pulsar clock, and it has a Museum of Turret Clocks.
A major fire in 2006 caused the roof to collapse.
