The Southeast Financial Center stands at 200 South Biscayne Boulevard in the central business district of Miami, Florida. Ground was broken on December 12, 1981, and the tower opened on October 23, 1984. Edward Charles Bassett of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill was the architect, with Spillis Candela & Partners as associate architect. It rises 233 meters, in 55 stories, and has a 15-story parking annex.
The structure is a composite frame with concrete-encased steel exterior columns and a braced steel core, set on 150 concrete caissons. Setbacks begin at the 43rd floor, and 43 elevators serve it.
It became LEED Gold certified in January 2010, the first such certification for a Miami office building. It was called the First Union Financial Center and the Wachovia Financial Center before reverting to its original name in 2011.
