San Fedele stands on Piazza San Fedele in central Milan, near the Teatro alla Scala and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Charles Borromeo commissioned the church, and Pellegrino Tibaldi was hired in 1559. The style is Mannerist. Francesco Maria Richino extended the presbytery in the seventeenth century and designed the sacristy. Pietro Pestagalli completed the facade in 1835 from Tibaldi's designs.
The interior is a single nave with tall granite columns. The artworks include a Pietà by Simone Peterzano, a St. Ignatius by Il Cerano, a Transfiguration by Bernardino Campi and a Sacred Heart altarpiece by Lucio Fontana from 1956.
A bronze statue of Alessandro Manzoni, from 1883, stands in the square. A museum and gallery with works from the Jesuit collection opened here in December 2014.
