The Church of Saint Spyridon in Trieste belongs to the Serbian Orthodox Church and is dedicated to Saint Spyridon. Carlo Maciachini designed it in the Neo-Byzantine style. Construction began on March 2, 1861, and finished on September 2, 1868. A small consecration followed on September 20, 1869.
The interior paintings are by Giuseppe Bertini, and Emilio Bisi made the facade sculptures. Marble came from Carrara, Verona, the Karst Plateau and Istria. A treasury holds objects, documents, icons and artworks dating back to 1751.
The Orthodox community in Trieste was founded in 1748, and Empress Maria Theresa allowed free Orthodox worship in 1751. The first church was shared by Serbs and Greeks. It was demolished because of ground instability and replaced by the present building.
