High Gothic construction began around 1230, and the article names no original builder. A serious fire in 1448 led Archpriest Guillaume d'Estouteville to begin a Flamboyant rebuilding. The bell tower was completed in 1487 and the apse and ambulatory added in 1489. The church reached its general present form in 1520. The western nave is High Gothic and the eastern nave Flamboyant. It is a stone structure with cylindrical pillars and ribbed vaults.

Jules Hardouin-Mansart designed the communion chapel in 1673, and Charles Le Brun modified the choir in 1684. Jean René Bazaine designed eight modern windows from 1964 to 1970.

The French state owns it, with the Catholic Church holding exclusive use. It is an active parish church. The carved organ case of 1745 is a classified monument.
