The Random House Tower, also called the Park Imperial Apartments, stands at 1745 Broadway in Midtown Manhattan. Construction began in 2000, and it was completed in 2003 at a cost of $300 million. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill designed the office section, and Ismael Leyva Architects and Adam D. Tihany designed the residential section.
The tower has 52 stories and its roof is 684 feet (208 meters) high. Offices fill floors 2 to 26, and 130 apartments fill floors 27 to 51. Its setbacks are jagged to improve views of Central Park. Two fluid tuned mass dampers on the 50th floor reduce sway. Critics said the three towers resemble books, while the architects called them three sliding crystals.
Random House has been headquartered here since the tower opened. Since 2016 it has also housed Penguin Random House, and the lease runs to 2033.
