The Pyrohoshcha Dormition of the Mother of God Church stands in Kyiv. It is a parish church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyivan Patriarchate. The original church dates to the twelfth century, with groundbreaking listed as 1131 and completion as 1136.
In 1934 it became the cathedral of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Church after that church's center moved to Kyiv. It served as a cathedral for less than a year. Soviet authorities destroyed it in 1935.
The church was largely forgotten until research on its remains began in 1976. It was rebuilt from 1997 to 1998 in a hypothetical Medieval Rus' style. The historical authenticity of the reconstruction is still debated.
