The Mundeshwari Temple stands on Mundeshwari Hill in the Kaimur plateau in Bihar, near the Son River, at an elevation of 607 feet (185 meters). It is dedicated to Shiva and to the goddess Mundeshwari, who is shown ten-armed and riding a buffalo. The sanctum also holds a four-faced Shiva lingam.

The Archaeological Survey of India has claimed a date of 108 AD, but historians date the architecture and sculpture to the sixth or seventh century. The temple is octagonal and built in the Nagara style. It is described as the earliest example of Nagara style in Bihar. Its tower was destroyed, and a roof was added during renovation.

The temple has been a protected monument since 1915. Worship is reported to be continuous, and pilgrims visit during Ramnavami and Shivratri.
