Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral, or Kaposvár Cathedral, stands in the historic center of Kaposvár and is the seat of the Diocese of Kaposvár. It is described as one of the largest Christian churches in Hungary. The first church was built in the Baroque style from 1737 to 1744. The new Neo-Romanesque cathedral was built in 1885 and 1886.

A porch image added in 1937 shows the pastor, residents and mayor professing faith in Christ and devotion to the Virgin Mary in Hungary. A new organ was installed in 1958, and the church was completely renovated in 1969. In 1977 the interior was modified to support liturgical activities.

A red marble memorial on the western wall, placed in 2003, honors priests who served the cathedral.
