Holy Trinity Church, also called the Dreifaltigkeitskirche, stands at Dreifaltigkeitsgasse 14 in Salzburg. Prince Archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun founded it, together with a seminary. Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach signed the contract in 1694, and the church was built from 1694 to 1702, consecrated in 1699 while partly unfinished. It was first planned for a narrow side street rather than its current square.
The Baroque design is partly modeled on Roman buildings, especially Borromini's Sant'Agnese in Agone. The interior is a longitudinal oval under a large drum dome. Johann Michael Rottmayr painted the dome fresco, the Coronation of the Virgin, from 1697 to 1700. The outer portal has four figures, three representing the theological virtues and one Divine Wisdom.
Belfries were added in 1757, and cupola towers followed the 1818 Neustadt fire.
