The Helsinki Old Church stands in Old Church Park in central Helsinki. It is a Neoclassical wooden church built from 1824 to 1826 under the supervision of Carl Ludvig Engel. It was consecrated on 17 December 1826. It was planned as a temporary replacement for the Ulrika Eleonora Church of 1727, which had become too small.

The church's pulpit, benches, chandeliers and organ were moved from the earlier church, and all but the pulpit were later replaced. The organ, with 36 stops, was installed in 1869. The altarpiece by Robert Wilhelm Ekman was originally commissioned for Helsinki Cathedral and was placed here in 1854.

The park around it was a cemetery from the 1780s. More than 1,000 victims of the 1710 plague are buried nearby, so the park is colloquially called Plague Park. The church is an active Lutheran church.
