The Catholic Church of the Holy Family stands in the Haberberg district of Königsberg, now Kaliningrad, near the Pregel river. It was built from 1904 to 1907 for Catholic immigrants arriving in the city. Friedrich Heitmann designed this Neo-Gothic brick church.
It remained largely unharmed in World War II. Afterward the Red Army used it as a field hospital and then as a fertilizer depot. A minor restoration followed in the early 1980s, and the church became a concert hall for the Kaliningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. The organ, with 44 registers and 3,600 pipes, was installed in the early 1980s, and a clock from the Kreuzkirche was placed in the tower.
The Kaliningrad authorities have refused to return the building to the Catholic community.
