The Church of the Ascension of Jesus, also known as the Church of St. Spas, stands east of Kale Fortress in Skopje. It was built in the mid-sixteenth century and given its final look in the nineteenth. It is an Eastern Orthodox church with three naves and an arched middle nave. It has a women's gallery in the west and a heavy oak entrance door.

The iconostasis was completed in 1824, and part of the throne icons were added in 1867. A flat painting from the sixteenth or seventeenth century was found during repairs in 1963 and 1964.

A white sarcophagus in the yard contains the remains of the revolutionary Gotse Delchev. In 1901 the church became the seat of the Skopje Metropolitan, Firmilijan, and his successors.
