The Church of St. Martin in the Wall stands in the Old Town of Prague, built partly against the old town walls. The settlement was a gift from Duke Soběslav II to the Vyšehrad Chapter. The church was built from 1178 to 1187 on a Romanesque base and altered in the Gothic style after 1350 under Charles IV, when a rib vault was added to the presbytery in the 1360s. The citizen Viktorin Holec paid for the late Gothic rebuilding, completed in 1488.

It has a pseudo-basilical plan with three naves, a square presbytery and a tower in the southwest corner.

In 1414 Jacob of Mies gave Communion under both kinds here, and a Hussite assembly met in 1433. Joseph II closed the church and sold it at auction in 1784 and 1785. The City of Prague bought it in 1904, and Kamil Hilbert reconstructed it from 1905 to 1909.
