The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Przemyśl, on Ulica Katedralna, is the mother church of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Peremyshl-Warsaw. It was built by the Jesuits in the seventeenth century and dedicated to St. Ignatius. After the Jesuit order was suppressed in 1773, the church gradually fell into ruin. In 1820 the Austrian authorities closed it and turned it into a storehouse.

A restoration was completed in 1903 and 1904, and the church was reconsecrated as the Sacred Heart of Jesus. After World War II it served as a garrison church and hosted a weekly Byzantine rite Mass for Ukrainian Catholics.

In 1991 the Latin Catholic Church, with personal oversight from Pope John Paul II, decided to donate the building to the local Greek Catholic population as its cathedral.
