220 Central Park South is a residential tower in Midtown Manhattan, just east of Columbus Circle. Robert A.M. Stern Architects designed it in the New Classical style for the developer Vornado Realty Trust, with SLCE Architects as architect of record and Thierry Despont designing the interiors. Groundbreaking took place in 2013, the first residents moved in during 2018, and the final exterior panels were installed in September 2020.
The main tower has 70 stories and rises about 950 feet (290 meters). A shorter section called the Villas faces Central Park South at 18 stories. The facade is Alabama Silver Shadow limestone, built as a curtain wall. A slosh damper weighing 1,100 short tons sits in the roof.
The building holds 118 apartments, mostly duplexes, and amenities including an 82-foot saltwater pool. In January 2019 Ken Griffin bought a four-floor unit for 238 million dollars, then the most expensive home sold in the United States.
